Hope Y’all are doing well…….
I want to start, a new section called Angie Eats, that will be restaurant reviews, that are all around Mombasa and Kenya. The section is still working progress…
I stumbled on Steam Bar & Grill when I attend an event for Afri-Love Connection and they hadn’t officially opened yet, so we were trying out the food. This place stuck with me and vowed to come back when they officially opened.
I went back a few months later, for lunch. am always in search for a good burger joint and so far they are only three places in Mombasa that keep me coming back and this place is in my top three.
I am foodie, love great food, but I always love food that is instagramable sorry it is the nature for the career I have chosen, If I can’t make my readers and followers jealous, and make them try out a new joint, then what is the point. Unless I am having dinner with my parents or a date, I wouldn’t be sharing photos of my food, but if I am on one of my self-care days, that I take my self to lunch, then am totally sharing.
So this post, if going to be divide into three sections
3. Service and Ambience.
Steam is located, on the rooftop of The Avenue Building which is Nyali, I will have the full location, at the end of the post.
It is an open concept, this use to be a club before it sold. I fell in love with the interior, the first time, I walked in.
The concept is rustic and industrial since they are exposed beams since it is on the rooftop of a building. The seats are covered in Jeans, and the tables are white distressed wood, giving it the rustic vibe.
It is great incorporation of they exposed beams. The use of tuk-tuks as centerpieces one that holds the menu and utensil and the other for the DJ booth.
On the table is something, I recently made notice of is the valve looking thing that is the number of the table. They are also bottles that have fairy lights in them, which are used at night.
The use of bottles as chandeliers and the plants all around the area make it look and feel like a jungle.
The Interior has me wanting a photoshoot there. As a person who sometimes tends to see things through the lens of a camera, they are a couple of ideas, I want to execute, with that interior in mind.
Now I think is the part everyone wants to read. So am going to divide into two sections:
2. The Taste.
I order the burger, I don’t remember which one it was. It came on a black plate, with the fries came in a small bucket and salad on it own bowl….wait before my main meal, I got a free appetizer to help tide me over…. Now to the main course….also on, my plate was the sauce for the burger and also coleslaw. Everything was on its own dish expect the Burger which was on the main plate.
Remember when I said Instagramble plate/Food, this was it… well the food was visually pleasing at this point, I don’t care if it tasted like crap….we tend to eat with our eyes, before we decide to taste it, and the plating was a 10/10..wish I could plate like that, it reminded me a lot of Masterchef plates.
From the appetizer, I got to my main meal. Everything was phenomenal. I loved everything that went into my mouth. The food was 10/10 in my books. And am not lying I paid for this lunch out of my pocket. If I had to change a couple of things I would have done without the pickle on top of my burger and maybe reduce the oil on the appetizer, it tasted a little burnt. Overall I enjoyed the food. And would totally coming back and try the Steak on their menu.
3. The Service And Ambience
The staff are helpful and friendly.
The ambiance of the place is fun, and a great place to chill and hang out with your friends and watch the sunset and enjoy some cocktails and eventual turn it to a night out.
This a place to totally check out and enjoy a meal. Now when it comes to the price, it is a little on the higher side but good food isn’t cheap. This is a great place to go on a date on, a girls lunch/dinner or cocktails and also to bring your clients when you have a lunch meeting.
The Roof Top of The Avenue Building. Mahesh Doshi Rd, Nyali Mombasa. It is behind City Mall( Nakumatt).
